A jookin’ jam session starring Lil Buck – SOLD OUT!

Lil Buck (Charles Riley) is a leader of a style of dance known as jookin’, which originated in Memphis, Tennessee. He gained mass acclaim for his YouTube collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma in “the Swan,” which went viral online in early 2011. Lil Buck was the artist in residence at the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival, and performed with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in the United States and in China at the U.S.-China Forum on the Arts and Culture, and he appeared at the 2011 Fall for Dance Festival in New York City. Lil Buck was featured in the music video for the song “Tightrope” by Janelle Monae, and appeared with Madonna in her 2012 Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show and on her 2012 MDNA Tour. Yo-Yo Ma

Yo-Yo Ma’s multifaceted career is testament to his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, and to his personal desire for artistic growth and renewal. Whether performing new or familiar works from the cello repertoire, coming together with colleagues for chamber music or exploring cultures and musical forms outside the Western classical tradition, Mr. Ma strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination.

Mr. Ma is an exclusive Sony Classical artist, and his discography of over 75 albums (including more than 15 Grammy Award winners) reflects his wide-ranging interests. Mr. Ma is one of the best-selling recording artists in the classical field.

Ron Myles

Ron “Prime Tyme” Myles was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, in a neighborhood called Orange Mound. Growing up the only dancer in the area, Myles described his friends and family as his greatest inspiration and motivation during this time. In 2009, Myles moved to Los Angeles, CA with his cousin and close friend Charles “Lil Buck” Riley, and since then has become one of the premier interpreters of the style of dance known as memphis jookin’, often in partnership with Riley. Since 2009, Myles has appeared as a featured dancer in the 2011 film Footloose; starred in several commercials including a Diet Pepsi segment alongside Sofia Vergara, and a spot for Adidas Originals; appeared in a TED Talk; and headlined evenings at the Vail International Dance Festival, where he also worked with children from the Celebrate the Beat program, the Colorado affiliate of the National Dance Institute which offers hundreds of students in the Vail Valley intensive music and dance classes in a week-long summer residency.
