Win Tickets to Philip Glass’s 75th Birthday Celebration at LPR

That’s right kids. you can win two tickets to Philip Glass’s 75th Birthday Celebration at LPR with Ira Glass, Kronos Quartet, Bruce Brubaker, and tons of others. (full lineup and more info here)

How can you win, you ask? Simple. Tell us why you deserve a pair of tickets. You can do this in the comments section of this post, on Twitter, or on Facebook. We’re going to pick our favorite reasons and give out some tickets. On Facebook we’re also going to give a pair to the person with the most “likes” on their comment as well. Now, you can just tell us a good reason, but we’re giving special consideration to anyone who makes us laugh, takes a photo to prove their point, or makes a video about why they should get the tickets. Here’s a couple good examples of our staff making their case why they deserve the tickets:

So, tweet us your reason, post it on our Facebook page, or post it in the comments section of our site.

I want to win because I am madly in love with the entire Glass family. I have devoted my life to the sounds of Philip and Ira. I also recently met Philip’s lesser known cousin Edgar Glass. He promised me tickets if I slept with him but I still haven’t received them. You guys no Edgar Glass right? Wait a minute. Oh god.

I should go to the Glass birthday celebration because, like Philip Glass I believe in Buddhism, and I am a vegetarian. I’ve listened to his cd’s so many times that they are scratched and no longer audible. I once saw him at a Michael Riesman concert at LPR. This is a pretty close re-enactment of me lunging toward him. I had a top on though…

p.s. did you know he made a cameo on South Park? :)

Well, I identify more with Seymour than Franny, but Philip has become the Glass I need to drink from…..

I deserve to win because I live in the woods of Maine and am crazy enough to travel all the way to NYC on short notice in an old Saab to attend this event. I am turning 60 in a few months and need to celebrate. I have spent many hours dancing to Philip Glass’s Pulsus with an improvisational dance company called Motion Collective in a dreadfully unflattering turquoise unitard and saw Kronos play through a power outage in an auditorium here in the 80′s.

I deserve to win because I went to a high school in the middle of small town, Michigan. One time, I was in my world literature class where my teacher read us a few jokes out of a joke book every Friday. This day, he prefaced his joke by saying, “I have never understood this joke, and none of my students have either, but I always tell it in hopes that someone can explain it.”

Of course, it was the infamous
    Knock Knock
    Who’s There?
    Knock Knock
    Who’s There?
    Knock Knock
    Who’s There?
    Knock Knock
    Who’s There?
    Philip Glass.

I burst out laughing, while everyone else in the room just stared at me.

Because getting to sing “Koyaanisqatsi live!” with the Collegiate Chorale this fall was the high point of my late-in-life pursuit of transcendent musical experiences.

no. i’m not going to make you laugh. sorry. little about me.

    - ex-gf’s ringtone was ‘mad rush’ (2009-2011)
    - she dumped me over the phone (dec. 2011)
    - got robbed: computer, ps3, passport gone (dec. 2011)
    - bruce brubaker is my teacher

i just want to start 2012 with a bang and nothing like celebrating one of the most influential composers in the 20th & 21st century!

It’s just that you’ll help me overcome and amend this six-year shame and guilt that growls and pierces my conscience. I can’t believe that I shunned Philip as he stood in the front yard of his East Village home looking to converse with me. Finally, I can face him, look in his eyes and wish him—-a very happy birthday.

  • Dustin

Ok. We’re giving a pair of tickets to Mark Falconer and Christopher Benton. E-mail info@lprnyc.com to claim your tickets.

  • Kathy

    No reason.
    Glass was a minimalist.
    I’ll keep it simple.
    Free things rock.

  • YJ

    LET’S BE MINIMAL…
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHIL !!!!

I would love to be at this show. People have yelled at me for years for listening to Philip Glass, I should be able to finally enjoy his music in good company.
