The music for the evening will feature:
– Selections from Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire
– arrangements of songs from the Beck Song Reader by composers Trevor Gureckis, Marina Kifferstein, and Bryan Senti
Simulacrum by Jordan Nobles

The concert will be followed by a synth dance party led by composer collective Found Objects, who have worked with some of today’s most influential artists including Philip Glass, Mark Ronson, Rufus Wainwright, Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, and Calexico.

About The Beck Hansen Song Reader
Beck’s latest album comes in an almost-forgotten form—twenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded. Complete with full-color, heyday-of-home-play-inspired art for each song and a lavishly produced hardcover carrying case, Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012—an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that’s as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together.

About Jordan Nobles
Hailed for creating music filled with an “unearthly beauty” (Mondomagazine) that makes listeners want to “close (their) eyes and transcend into a cloud of music” (Discorder Magazine), Jordan Nobles has emerged as one of Canada’s finest composers. His chamber music work Simulacrum was recently nominated as “Classical Composition of the Year” at the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards. Jordan was named the International Winner of Seattle’s Polyphonos Choir Composition Competition, and a Finalist in the C4 Choir Composition Competition in New York and the Soli fan tutti Kompositionspreis in Darmstadt, Germany. Recent projects have included a piano concerto for the Vancouver Symphony with pianist Corey Hamm, a chamber ensemble piece for Victoria’s Aventa Ensemble for their European tour, and music for the vertical dance company Aeriosa.

The Nouveau Classical Project (NCP)

The Nouveau Classical Project (NCP) re-imagines classical and new music through interdisciplinary projects and connects emerging composers with diverse audiences. Since its inception in 2008, the group has been hailed by NPR Music’s Deceptive Cadence for “putting a new face on classical music.” Awards include a 2011 JFund Commission in collaboration with Trevor Gureckis and an installment on Music at the Anthology’s (MATA) 2011 Interval 4.0 Series. NCP collaborates with composers to do music for live fashion shows, including those of CFDA-nominee Pamela Love, Project Runway winner Gretchen Jones, Tanya Taylor, and others. Most recently, NCP performed the first fashion show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for Tanya Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation. Their project In & Around C, in collaboration with Mad Mohre, was featured in The New York Times in August 2012. NCP is currently pursuing large-scale projects that challenge traditional performance formats.
