Lugz, Skidz, Jncos, Starter jackets, Skidz (!!!!), Polo Sport, Karl Kani, Tommy Hill, Nautica, ski goggles, flanel shirts, Doc Martins, Timbs, scrunchies, shell necklaces, crystal necklaces, Umbros, Tevas…The 90s was such a CRAZY era of style.
 
And the music?
 
Maaan…The music of the 90s is close to EVERYONE’s heart. The “Golden Era” of hip-hop took over!! Who doesn’t have a Mobb Deep or a Nas or a Black Moon joint at the top of their all-time rap list? Souls of Mischief? T.R.O.Y.? Wu-Tang? Tribe Called Quest?!? New Jack?!? And who out there hasn’t at one point or another worshipped Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Radiohead, Metallica, Soundgarden, Oasis…Do I need to go on? I haven’t even got to the underground rock scenes yet.
 
And speaking of the underground…THE HOUSE MUSIC?!?! The only place for house music WAS the underground. It was not yet a worldwide phenomenon. It wasn’t watered down by cheesy synths and obvious progressions. People were really dancing, with the lower halves of their bodies, real footwork, not this masculine fist-pump crap! Classic, deep dance tracks were redefining dance floors wayyy before hitting the Top 40. “Beautiful People,” “Follow Me,” “Gypsy Woman,” “Luv Dancin,” Armand van Helden’s “Flowerz,” the Strictly Rhythm label, those Body & Soul CDs, I mean…I’m barely scraping the surface here!
 
And what about the city? NYC in the 90s? The parties? The raves? C’mon. And the movies?! You own them. You watch them. You LOVE them.
 
The 90s were incredible.
 
So we’re paying tribute.
