How We Work:
We show up in a room. Sometimes we write together. The texts are no longer than 400 words. We’re after madcap magic. We poke at parts of ourselves that are unfinished. We take turns reading, and sometimes we lap each other like waves. Arthur Kell, on upright bass, weaves jazz and blues melodies in and out of our voices. Themes and characters emerge. The next reader bounces off a track that’s been laid down. We find pieces with monsters, sex, cities, deserts, wars, death, circuses, geraniums, brothers, coffeegrinders, and the way the air smells after rain. Each is part of the carpet that is all of us.

Our Blurb in Brief:
A text-and-jazz performance ensemble based in New York City, FLASHPOINT interweaves the distinctive voices, rhythms, and characters of six writers and one musician to create a collaborative, interactive literary and musical jam. No two performances are alike.
