Trust
Trust, the synthpop project of Toronto’s Robert Alfons, has a new album called Joyland on the way next month, and he’ll bring the live show to LPR on Thursday, April 10.

Previously a duo with Austra’s Maya Postepski, who produced and co-wrote 2012’s TRST, Trust has evolved into Alfons’ solo endeavor with Joyland—though he’ll add Anne Gauthier and Esther Munits to the lineup for live shows. These changes is by no means a bad thing, though, if the new tracks “Rescue, Mister” and “Capitol” are any indication. We like Tom Breihan’s description of the new sound as “something like what happened if someone remembered that the word ‘house’ was supposed to be part of the term ‘witch house.'”

Scroll down to watch Sabrina Ratté’s heady video for “Rescue, Mister” and stream “Capitol,” on which “Alfons’ dark, ominously sulking synthpop explodes into a soaring chorus-of-the-year contender that’s cathartic and life-affirming and very hard not to spontaneously dance to every time,” according to Gorilla vs. Bear.
