Today is composer Steve Reich’s 75th birthday. We’ve been fortunate enough to have Reich here at the venue for performances of his works a number of times, and are fans of his music. So, I spent a little time digging for some videos of these performances on YouTube, however shaky, and we’ve collected a few of them below. If you find better versions of these performances (or other performances) drop a note in the comments section and we’ll update the post. We’ll also post these performances over at our Tumblr.
Also, Steve Reich’s label, Nonesuch, has set up a tribute page for Reich’s 75th birthday where you can listen to many of the recordings they’ve released over the year. And Boosey & Hawkes are running a contest where you can win all kinds of Steve Reich swag, like a “Drumming” coffee mug or a “Music for 18 Musicians” t-shirt.
