Here’s “The Weight of Gold,” a new video from Forest Swords, the dub/experimental project of English producer Matthew Barnes, who’s coming to LPR on Wednesday, March 26 to co-headline a show with How to Dress Well.

“The Weight of Gold” is the second single from Forest Swords’ acclaimed 2013 album Engravings, and Barnes collaborated on the video with Benjamin Millepied, who choreographed and starred in Black Swan and will soon become Director of Dance at the Paris Opera Ballet.
 
“The locations Benjamin picked for this video really resonate with the track. I’ve always associated the songs on Engravings with the British landscape—woodland and sandstone, because that’s the environment I live in and produced the record in—but taking the music out of that context and placing it in Israel definitely shifts the track in a direction I didn’t expect,” says Barnes.
 
Millepied adds: “Billy Barry is a dancer I saw perform at Juilliard before he left, maybe three years ago…I wanted to create a portrait of him and that’s what this is. Billy’s quality as a dancer is so otherworldly. The sense of solitude depicted in the film reflects just how different and unique he is as an artist.”
 
This isn’t the first time Barnes has showcased some talented moves in one of his videos. The video for Engravings‘ lead single, “Thor’s Stone,” featured Spanish dancer Guzman Rosado. That track was also remixed by dub legend Lee “Scratch” Perry. Check out both the video and remix below.
