Join us as Ben Angotti, Leif McIlwaine, Kevin Ragnott and Lexi Bella paint live with the hopes of winning a solo show at Under Minerva Gallery. The 4 talented artists will have about 3 hours to paint while top DJs spin allowing the crowd to connect to the art, the artists and the music at this exciting art party. In the end, the crowd will vote for their favorite artist both determining the winner and helping launch the career of one of these promising artists.
Prize Description: Under Minerva is offering 2 months of studio space in their Artists Den, a 24-hour shared studio space beneath the gallery. After the close of this residency, the battle winner will receive a one-week solo exhibition in the gallery that includes an opening reception party.
Artists Bios:
Ben Angotti: Brooklyn resident Ben works in many different mediums to display images of violence and beauty. Usually working straight from the head, his subject matter is somewhere between realism and fantasy.
Leif McIlwaine (aka BEAST) was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember, competitive even in elementary school, where he consistently strived to be the best artist in the class. At 12 years old, Leif saw my first glimpse of really good graffiti in Barcelona, Spain, where there are walls stretching entire city blocks filled with incredible graffiti art, all of it legal. After seeing such amazing colors, characters and text, Leif decided that art was what he needed to be doing. He has been improving and testing his skills ever since.
Kevin Ragnott was born in Canada in 1982 and raised in Florida, but he's now "repping" Brooklyn for good. By many, he's seen as cool and confident willing to work with anyone, open-minded, smart, outgoing, a hard-worker and always hopes for the best. "My life would be easier without all this passion," he says, "but not as full."
Lexi Bella is a professional artist living in New York City. Jumping into her world is more fun than swimming through a vat of raspberry lipgloss. She's the high priestess of the cult of beauty, cutting, pasting, and painting her way through her own brand of gorgeous frankensteins. Bon vivant and stone cold fox, Lexi Bella puts the "fine" in fine art.
