Mark Karan of Bob Weir & RatDog brings his band, Jemimah Puddleduck out for the first time in over three years! In addition to performing favorite tunes you've loved hearing for years, JP will also be featuring new material from the new Mark Karan album, Walk Through the Fire. JP is MK with John Molo (Phil & Friends) on drums, JT Thomas (Bruce Hornsby) on keys, and Bob Gross (Albert King) on bass. When they're in between tours with other bands, this solid ensemble rocks out to rootsy songs, while incorporating the psychedelic jams they're known for. Mark's soulful vocals and guitar licks, Molo's genius on drums, JT's madness on keys, and Bob's steady grooves lend themselves to the dance-friendly, yet emotive Americana sound this band consistently delivers.
Artists
Mark Karan & Jemimah Puddleduck
Bay Area musician Mark Karan has added his distinctive guitar sound to
recordings and shows from a diverse collection of musical folk… from classic
rockers like Dave Mason and Delaney Bramlett to more modern, mainstream
acts like the Rembrandts. Though best known for his touring efforts with Grateful
Dead-related bands The Other Ones and Bob Weir & RatDog, Karan also tours
with his own band, Jemimah Puddleduck.
Jemimah Puddleduck features players who, like Karan, have made their names as hired hands for big-name acts. Grammy winner and groove guru John Molo has anchored the last decade of drums for Phil Lesh & Friend; keyboardist John “JT” Thomas tours and cowrites with Bruce Hornsby, and is a two-time Grammy nominee; and bassman Bob Gross has anchored the bass for Albert King and Delaney Bramlett. Their collective resumes also include tours with artists such as Tracy Chapman, John Fogerty, Paul Carrack, Sophie B. Hawkins, and Sparks.
Mark offers his soulful blues-based vocal stylings and inspired guitar work with a remarkably tight rhythm section in a passionate delivery of the sounds of Americana. JP is where rock meets R&B and country, with the soul of New Orleans, reggae, and funk, flashes of psychedelia, and whatever else the muse offers in the moment. In addition to his originals like "Time Will Tell" and “Leave a Light On”, as well as those of songwriter friends, Mark also covers a range of eclectic songs like Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "You Can Stay (But the Noize Must Go)", Peter Tosh's "Don't Look Back", and the Kinks’ “Lazin’ on a Sunny Afternoon”- his unique choices in music are the hallmark of the rare JP shows.
Mark’s debut album, “Walk Through the Fire” will be released by Quacktone Records on June 30, 2009, and available in stores, on Itunes, Amazon.com, and his website markkaran.com. The album features special guests Delaney Bramlett, The Persuasions, Billy Payne, The Rowan Brothers, Mike Finnigan, and Pete Sears.
In 2009, JP is touring in support of this album, and will be making appearances at festivals and clubs nationwide.
