"This new recording is beautiful—musically and dramatically." … "Delicate, taut, and incisive writing. Beautiful interplay between instruments and voices, between the rhythm/melodies/harmonies and the text. ‘Synaptic’ guitar picking; a really elegant solo improvisation on Track 5."… "I ’m uplifted by this new Pritsker CD—impressed by the authenticity of music that “had to come out”, had to be composed, had to exist." … "T his opera by Gene Pritsker honors that Jamesian notion. The opera—and this recording—are a welcome invitation to self-discovery, to mutual respect and tolerance for the spirituality (or lack thereof) of others, and to joyous, mindful living in community. Look for the CD when it’s released in February. Very worth your listening!"
-Doug McNair, Chamber Music Today, Jan. 2012

"William James' Varieties of Religious Experience" album release concert
Composer/guitarist/rapper/Di.J. Gene Pritsker has written over four hundred compositions, including chamber operas, orchestral and chamber works, electro-acoustic music and songs for hip-hop and rock ensembles. All of his compositions employ an eclectic spectrum of styles and are influenced by his studies of various musical cultures.

He is the founder and leader of Sound Liberation; an eclectic hiphop-chamber-jazz-rock-etc. ensemble who have released cd's on Col-legno and Innova Records. Gene's music has been performed all over the world at various festivals and by many ensembles and performers, including the Adelaide Symphony, The Athens Camarata, Brooklyn and Berlin Philharmonic. He has worked closely with Joe Zawinul and has orchestrated major Hollywood movies.

The New York Times described him as "...audacious...multitalented." Joseph Pehrson, writing in The Music Connoisseur, described Pritsker as "dissolv[ing] the artificial boundaries between high brow, low brow, classical, popular musics and elevates the idea that if it's done well it is great music, regardless of the style or genre". Raul d'Gama Rose writes in All About Jazz: "Barring the obvious exceptions, much of 21st century composition appears to be thinning in significance, but this might be about to change. Gene Pritsker is one of a very spare handful of composers effecting this change."

Zentripetal String Duo
Zentripetal made its debut in 2006, when violinist Lynn Bechtold & cellist Jennifer DeVore decided to explore the violin/cello duo repertoire and to premiere new works for the combo. Longtime collaborators, the two have been performing together since they were students at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. To date, the duo has performed at the Austrian Cultural Forum NYC, Galapagos, the Goethe Institut NYC, the JCC, the Players' Theatre, the Roerich Museum, the Renee Weiler Concert Hall at Greenwich House, & the Yeshiva University Museum, as well as on the Vox Novus Series, & on series in New Jersey & Pennsylvania. They are finishing up their first CD, which will be released in 2012 on Composers Concordance Records, distributed by Naxos.

The International Street Cannibals
Our name was inspired by Montaigne's essay, "Of Cannibals," penned in 1580. His cannibals had a point, as it turns out, and the Western world could learn a thing or two from those scary transgressors. In the spirit of those outrageous outsiders seen anew in Montaigne's literary light, the International Street Cannibals challenge assumptions about the concert space – and Art itself. With superb craft and inspired musicianship, the Cannibals are keepers and messengers of Art and community.

The International Street Cannibals are a collective of instrumentalists and singers, composers, videographers, audio technicians, dancers, puppeteers and visual artists. Our performers come from The Metropolitan Opera, The Orchestra of St. Luke's, the London Philharmonic, The STX Ensemble, The American Ballet Theater, the New York City Opera, and The Absolute Ensemble. We are artists from everywhere, of every style and philosophy.

The International Street Cannibals showcase new composition and the finest of the classical repertoire – and, like true cannibals, we are no strangers to the outrageous: A belly dancer will grace a performance in The Holding Tank concert series, while boxers in the ring are also artists-in-concert in our STRIKE! series.
