This brand new weekly open mic night is highly recommended for show-tune lovers, Broadway enthusiasts, "Gleeks", fans of Charles Nelson Reilly, and anyone who ever wanted to do their own dream ballet. Come join us and pay homage to the old Village Gate, a nightclub/theater that opened in the late 50's and premiered a number of Off-Broadway shows, including Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, in 1968!
Hosted by ultimate theater nerd Kevin Michael Murphy, with Caleb Hoyer on the keys, this weekly shindig features performances by fancy Broadway guests, all the latest showbiz gossip, and plenty of witty banter to boot! Kevin Michael Murphy(Host)
is an actor/improvisor, who has been described by Gawker.com as being "the most clueless boy in NYC." Kevin is the creator/star of "Craig Stevens Guide to Making it On Broadway," which has played to sold out houses at the Laurie Beechman Theater. Kevin is also the co-creator of "If It Only Even Runs a Minute," a critically acclaimed concert series which celebrates under-appreciated musicals. Kevin performs a half-hour improvised musical with his group, Zamboni!, which has performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, The PIT, and numerous other NYC comedy venues. Other Credits include: The Awesome 80's Prom(Off-Bway), The Happy Embalmer(NYMF), Vote!(Fringe), With Glee(NYMF), and Snapshots(Seaside MT). When not performing, Kevin can be found teaching people how to sing.www.TakeNYCVoiceLessons.com. Kevin holds a MA from NYU, and BM from James Madison University.
Caleb Hoyer
Caleb Hoyer(musical director) is a composer/lyricist and musical director originally from Pittsburg, KS. His music has been heard throughout New York at such venues as New World Stages, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, The Duplex, and Radio City Music Hall. He received a degree in Music Theory and Composition from New York University, where he also received the Alan Menken Award for his music theatre writing. He is currently on staff at NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance - Musical Theatre where he has music directed or assisted on such rare and underappreciated shows as Smile, Candide, Something's Afoot, and King David. He also co-conceived (with MK Lawson), music directed, and arranged music for One Step Closer: The Music of Alan Menken, a new revue which premiered at the Provincetown Playhouse. He is also the musical director of, "If It Only Even Runs a Minute," an acclaimed concert series celebrating under-appreciated musicals. He is currently developing an original musical fairy tale.
