Kindergarten
Kindergarten IS the New York sound that has been missing since the late 70's!! This NYC-based quartet with serious funk chops and a knack for hook-laden songwriting establishes a party atmosphere at every single show, whether it's at a fraternity house or a downtown rock club. Mix one part each of classic artists Talking Heads, Television, David Bowie and Lou Reed - then smother with a thick layer of Prince funk, and you'd get a sound like this foursome produces. On 1/1/10, the band celebrated a soft release of their new sophomore album Small, which is currently available on iTunes.

Fusing elements from the 1970's up to the modern age, Kindergarten is particularly influenced by NY legends Talking Heads, Television and Lou Reed, as well as seminal artists David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Earth Wind & Fire and Michael Jackson. Originally formed in 2002, the band’s creator and producer Ariel Levine went through 32 bandmates before settling on the current three members of the group. Both Sakura Toyama and Zach Abramson studied classical music and piano since early childhood, with Toyama earning her Artists Diploma from the Chopin School of Music in Poland and Abramson receiving his MA in orchestral composition from the Manhattan School of Music. Yancy Drew Lambert grew up playing the trumpet and took up drums in the late ‘80s when the acid jazz scene was booming in New York City. Lambert later joined the acid jazz collective Brooklyn Funk Essentials, which took him touring worldwide and sharing stages with the likes of James Brown, George Clinton, and The Roots as well as making national TV appearances on VH1 and the BBC.

Small is the follow-up to Kindergarten's debut album River of Slime (2007) which was almost entirely written, recorded, produced and mixed by Ariel Levine. Small is a collection of 11 hook-heavy songs the band has been performing live for over a year prior to their recording, and is more of a collaborative effort between all band members. The lyrics focus on dark themes and bizarre dream sequences but it is the Kindergarten trick that these weighty matters are couched in catchy melodies, driving choruses, and funk-dance grooves. Blogcritics Magazine says the album will “knock your socks off with intriguing lyrics and awesome rock.”
The Life and Times Of
Rooted in hard rock with a heavy dose of soul and R&B, The Life and Times Of multiply the energy level of a typical Brooklyn show by 800. With singer Cedric Lamar, who can wail like Motown and jam like classic rock, backed up by a stellar bass player, squealin’ guitarist and steady drummer, no one is sittin’ still. Especially not the band, whose members contagiously gyrate and jump for the entire set. Their songs weave in and out of melancholy blues, hoppin’ twang and hard rock breakdowns, all featuring poetic, thoughtful lyrics. Watch out for the insane slap bass solo and be sure to have some whiskey on hand; this band goes well with liquor
Baby Brother
Baby Brother is a Brooklyn based, rock, rhythm and blues group with super infused punk-country undertones. Lead singer and guitarist Jeremy Beazlie fronts a whopping group backed by lead guitarist and Texas born and raised Vincent Vitek, and from Seattle, Ian Hardie on drums and Ben Longwell on the bass. Hard, fun, kick you in the gut rock and roll for all ages, provided that you're used to a little profanity here and there, Baby Brother want's nothing more than to blow back your hair, and melt your pretty face. They're not asking you to leave anyone, they just want a little bit of your time. A new band looking to expand and re-mine rock origins, Baby Brother has such influences as: The White Stripes, Screaming Females, Bob Dylan, Junior Brown, BR-549, Queens of the Stone Age, Johnny Cash, John Lennon, and Nirvana. They work hard, and if you don't know them, they play hard. Strap yer boots for a show with songs of spooky ghost tales, uplifting rockers, tales of betrayal, abuse and...love? Baby Brother runs the gambit and so should you, so nod yer head, tap yer feet, and for God's sake, shake Yerbouti.
Rings of Avaris
The sound of urgency meets a call for action.

Rings of Avaris bring you their debut release, The End of Sorrow, and invite you into a void-less world filled with love lost, addiction, resistance, and new found hope. Witness an illumination of guitars tearing and shedding light over a backdrop of mechanized drums and bass, which are not to be overshadowed by searing vocals and foreboding lyrics.

Imperative emotions are worn here, not as hearts on sleeves, but masks on souls. Take the leap, embrace necessity. Enfold yourself in The End of Sorrow.
