On & Off the Page: Evans, Lehman, Smythe

The new "On and Off the Page" series from the International Contemporary Ensemble illuminates music that breaks down the barriers between written and improvised music. This concert spotlights three rising stars of New York's improvised music scene — Peter Evans, Steve Lehman, and Cory Smythe — joined by members of ICE in miniature "sets" devoted to the playing and compositions of each of these spectacular musicians.

Service Not Included

Description

Service Not Included features writers and comedians sharing funny anecdotes and horror stories about their experiences working in the service industry. Seasoned performers re-live some of the worst (or best) moments at their “day jobs” in what has become known as a humorous faux-educational program for those who have never needed to work in the service industry.

You’ll totally relate to some of the hilarious encounters that these former waiters, bartenders, retail workers and baristas have dealt with on a regular basis. They know exactly what it’s like to get the European table. Revenge is sweetest with a stage and a microphone.

"Long Live Pére Ubu!" - The Spectacle American

Description

"Long Live Père Ubu!" - The Spectacle is the concert version of Pere Ubu's adaptation of Alfred Jarry's "Ubu Roi." It is a production without precedent. The boundary between musical and dramatic performance is obliterated. The very notion of what a rock band can and should achieve on stage is turned on its head. David Thomas plays the parts of both Père and Mère Ubu. Members of the band perform the music, choreography, as well as all dramatic roles. The staging is framed by large screen projections of bespoke animations from legendary film- makers The Brothers Quay. Songs from the production are released as a cd, "Long Live Père Ubu!" (Hearpen Records) and available for download from hearpen.com

From the producer of The Luvely Rae’s One Night Stand, Spice! a variety show, and Dirty Luv comes a new kind of late night dance party. Ciona Taylor Productions invites sleep deprived New Yorkers to stay up late at The Luvely Rae’s Insomnia a fun and funky booze fueled evening of random entertainment.

The last Sunday of every month, DJ Joey Nova spins the beats that will get you moving and grooving, while burlesque beauty The Luvely Rae delivers a bevy of ridiculous reasons to stay up late including: burlesque performers, sideshow artists, interviews with local celebs, sexy GoGo dancers, Connect Four. It’s New York’s only dance party that features naughty Twister with half naked strangers, and plenty of opportunities to win cash, booze, and other recession proof prizes.

The Luvely Rae takes it off every month and lends her choreography skills to Hunnie, Insomnia’s very own fly girls that are ready to set it off every show. Hunnie’s scantily clad cuties currently include: Chelle Cheri, Gitanilla, Lily Stitches and The Luvely Rae.

Come dressed in your Monday morning best: banker business suit, freelancer Pajamas with funky house shoes.
